Nonograms, also known as pic-a-pix, paint by numbers puzzles, picross or griddlers, started appearing in Japanese puzzle magazines. Non Ishida published three picture grid puzzles in 1988 in Japan under the name of "Window Art Puzzles". Subsequently in 1990, James Dalgety in the UK invented the name Nonograms after Non Ishida, and The Sunday Telegraph started publishing them on a weekly basis.

In this puzzle type, the numbers measure how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. To solve a puzzle, one needs to determine which cells will be boxes and which will be empty. Later in the solving process, the spaces help determine where a clue may spread. Solvers use a dot to mark cells they are certain are spaces.

I love picross/nonograms, and this app is great. I've done over 1,000 of them, and consider myself to be quite proficient. However, the further I get, the more puzzles there are that are not solvable without guessing, which if wrong, messes up everything else. These puzzles are either poorly designed or were not caught in the review process. It's very frustrating not being able to solve them.

Hi! We strive to check all puzzles, and of course, there should be no puzzles that can only be solved by guessing. Please send us the numbers of such puzzles at [email protected], and we will definitely fix them!

So I love the game. Been addicted since I downloaded it a while back but it has a major issue for me. There is no hint or correction system in place whatsoever. I've made it through the bulk of several large puzzles, and realized minor issues with a few rows, with no way to ever fix them! Please add some kind of help system!

Could not transfer from kindle. Where i "bought" it a long time ago as the app of the day. To get to where i am on that one it is hundreds of ads. Only doing 4 stars because of lost progress. Otherwise it is a great game of its type. I enjoy the auto fill. E.g. if you need a line of 4, when youbput 4 in the game fills the rest as x. This is not a default setting.
