About this game

NETFLIX MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.

The Idol was lost — but not forgotten. Collect crime-scene clues to piece together shocking truths in this standalone sequel to the award-winning mystery game "The Case of the Golden Idol."

Three hundred years after the unspeakable fate of the Cloudsley family, the Golden Idol's legend lives on only in whispers and myth. But now, in the tumultuous times of the 1970s, some are determined to see the Idol restored to its former glory. Discover the mysterious forces connecting a relentless relic hunter, a team of scientists, the members of an enlightenment-seeking cult and more characters drawn to the all-powerful artifact.

As the observer in this point-and-click mystery game, you must investigate 20 strange — and possibly supernatural — cases of crime, death and depravity. Use your detective skills to make sense of a grand mystery that unfolds across an age of hallucinogens, disco, fax machines and parapsychology.

LEAD YOUR OWN INVESTIGATION

Explore each crime scene at your own pace, using observation and logic to build theories of the case. Click to collect clues and analyze each discovery to determine what happened, why, and who was responsible.

A CURIOUS CAST OF CHARACTERS

Convicted prisoners, chat show hosts, corporate middle management and many more figures have a role to play in the wider mystery that unfolds — each driven by their own agenda, and some driven to murder. Scour each scene for key details, put names to faces and deduce each person's motives.

SMOOTHER SLEUTHING AND SOLVING

A new interface lets you quickly collect key terms from each crime scene and seamlessly toggle between investigating and theorizing. Make connections to fill in the blanks of the story for each case, and then piece together every chapter's overarching narrative.

1: this was a great follow-up to the original game. 2: I didn't come across any bugs while playing, lots of people did apparently and rated it low. Maybe they've fixed everything? 3: As someone who played all of the original game, and just finished this one, understand that this story is not linear and may at times have you stumped. Trust me that when you reach the end, you'll understand everything. It's all connected. (Go play the first game) (I see space on the main menu for DLCs 🤞)

Was going to put 1 star for the soft lock bug at the end of act 2 but it's fixed now and I was able to proceed. Will remain 5 stars unless another game breaking bug emerges. I own the case of the golden idol on steam and enjoyed it. Didn't even know a second one came out. It can be a bit overwhelming at times but stick with it. I'll admit there are a couple of instances where I just guessed the last two answers. Then I look back and see how I missed it.

The Colour Gray hit another one out of the park with this sequel. The puzzles are tightly presented, and the attention to detail is superb. Unwraveling each mystery is an absolute delight, particularly near the end with the betrayals and counter-betrayals weaved into one another. I hope that this style of mystery game playing would develop into its own genre.
