NOT YET CONVINCED? READ ON...

ALWAYS READY WHEN YOU ARE - COMPUTER OPPONENT
No matter if it is in the middle of the night or your coffee break, your computer is always ready for a match. Choose from three difficulty levels, according to your skill. For those who only want to play against the best, there is an world class artificial intelligence opponent available as an in-app purchase (more below). Casual play or competitive match? True Backgammon has an opponent for you that is fun to play with or that is a teeth grinding challenge.

PLAY WITH HUMANS NEAR YOU - GAME BOARD MODE
Imagine you are together with friends and you want to pass some time with a match? Or you sit on a train, playing against the computer and one of your commuters turns out to be a backgammon player too? You don't need to carry a real board with you all the time. Instead True Backgammon is your board. Play against friends and acquaintances, any time and anywhere.

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER - GAME BOARDS
We didn't just strive to make a good AI and fluid gameplay, we also made it our mission to make it look good. No, not just good... we wanted to make them look drop dead gorgeous good. We found a skilled designer and then tortured him with feedback until we were satisfied. The result are two boards (metal and wood) which look awesome, while providing little visual distraction to let you focus on your strategy. And for those who love a little distraction, we let the designer run wild with a selection of (optional) fancy boards, rich with decor and beautiful details. Which one is your favorite?

AAAND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BOARD, A MULTIPLE OLYMPIC CHAMPION AI - BEEE GEEEE BLITZ
From time to time there is an olympic tournament for backgammon programs. We managed to convince the maker of the three times winner BGBlitz to make his AI available to the users of True Backgammon. This AI is a world class opponent for those who only want to match up against the best. And it is a patient mentor. BGBlitz offers a tutor mode, that will point out moves that are less than optimal, and it will show better ones. It will also offer you statistics, and you can export your current match into the common sgf format to analyze it with other applications like XG2, BGBlitz or gnuBG.

WHAT ELSE CAN WE SAY?
Long story short, we put a lot of effort into this app, not just into the game play, but on every level. If you choose it, we are sure you will not be disappointed.

Feature Request: I use the BGBlitz Tutor extensively. It would be really nice if the pop-up recommendation indicated the actual equity loss in the message itself, rather than having to click on "Details" to launch the list of best moves, scrolling down (potentially), and having to close that modal pop-up.

This idea is brilliant, i wonder why nobody has thought of it before. I already added this feature, and the next official version of the app will have included it. If you want to pretest, I would be happy to add you to the list of beta testers. If you are interested, please contact me by email (m.goemmel (at) compulab.de). Thank you!

Ok, I've edited my review...I am a intermediate level player and after several hundred games I can honestly say this is BS. Yes, it's a great learning tool that can improve your game BUT. When you can accurately call out every single roll the AI gets when you have blots on the board something isn't right. I play on BG blitz 2 difficulty. Plus the AI is really inconsistent. It's almost adaptive. I slaughtered it on BGblitz2 18-0 then proceeded to get destroyed every match I've had for a week.

Love to hear that you like the app, and that the app improved your game. Regarding the dice: they can be seen upfront in the right menu (press the small dice icon to display them), so this random dice row cannot be changed to fit better to positions the computer run into. Please have a look for yourself. Otherwise: have fun playing!

I have played this game a lot over the past several weeks, and I won't say the computer opponent cheats, however it does seem to get extraordinarily lucky with the dice throws a lot more often than not; especially if you have won twice.

You can prove for yourself, that the dice are not rigged by (1) looking at the dice list beforehand (right menu, click on the small dice icon) to prove that the dice do not change during a game, and by (2) writing down a game and playing that game again, with the same dice as before, but entered as manual dice. The game will be exactly the same.

What's new

* 'Show win probability bar in the center of the board' tutor game aids option added
* 'Doubling messages contain score and pipcount' game aids option added
* The BGBlitz engine now offers a 'BGBlitz 3-ply' option, which performs a (slow but very powerful) 3-ply depth analysis
