About this app

Handbook of Rocks is a free android application with the complete list of all rock types.

Nearly all rocks can be classified according to their origin into three major groups. These divisions include igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks. A few rocks are hybrid in nature.

As the science of rocks (petrology) developed, many rock names were introduced into the scientific literature. Often a different name was assigned to every rock that showed a slight difference from any known rock.

Geology Rocks - Handbook of Rocks provides a compendium of more than 4000 rock types. Keep ROCKing, because I constantly update the app/list.

Made by a Geologist for Geologists.

A description of rocks. Rainy season here, will use more extensively this Spring. Geology Tool Kit if I remember correctly, is also by this Apps author/developer which I am downloading next. I marked "not visually appealing" below, but I haven't checked for settings, but if this has a dark mode, that would be an erroneous comment. Pictures would give that extra star.

If you're a geologist studying for a test that doesn't include pictures of rocks then this is for you. But me? I'm going to have to look up several words throughout my time I spend reading this app (though I haven't made any commitments to actual doing) and still not have a clue what the reasoning for the efforts it took to have this turned into an app that is called the HANDBOOK of ROCKS, which so far has no photographs of real rocks

Well described not 2 lil, not 2 much info, nice an orderly everything well categorized. Useful zoom-enabled charts & diagrams, jus a tad disappointing no pics but thats ok, says both Rock AND mineral if that the case what they should do is make a sister app that mirrors this 1s platform; 1 dedicated to all Rock types, other 1 dedicated to all minerals just cuz the sheer volume of total #of minerals out there; B 2 much to have both in 1 app, would be either 2 crammed, confusing or 2 incomplete

Dear Austin, Thank you for providing your valuable feedback! As the title of the app says, it's all about rocks (not minerals). Of course, as geologists, you can't talk about a rock-type without mineralogy of that rock. For all minerals, I have developed another app: 'Minerals - Handbook of Mineralogy'. For much more, try Geology Toolkit.
