About this app

The Microsoft Family Safety app helps empower you and your family to create healthy habits and protect the ones you love. Get peace of mind that your family is staying safer while giving your kids independence to learn and grow.
This app is designed for both parents and kids.

For parents, it helps to create a safe space for their children to explore online. Set parental controls to filter inappropriate apps and games and set browsing to kid-friendly websites on Microsoft Edge.

Help your kids balance their screen time activity. Set limits for specific apps and games on Android, Xbox, or Windows. Or use device management to set screen time limits across devices on Xbox and Windows.

Use activity reporting to better understand your family's digital activity. View your kids’ activity in a weekly email to help start a conversation about online activity.

For kids, it ensures their safety in the digital world by adhering to parental controls and accessing age-appropriate content.

This app was almost a good idea. Unfortunately the performance ruins the whole experience. Accounts don't recognize each other half the time. Administrators don't have the ability to change some settings on accounts they set up themselves. And on and on and on. Very very buggy. Not worth the hastle.

App doesn't load correctly. Stops on various pages and requires closing the window and re-opening. Took 5 minutes to add $ to my son's account, and after the app finally worked I received an error message. Seriously Microsoft, I'm trying to give you money. When I click "more info" on why it failed, I'm taken to a generic help window. Not helpful. But first, I'm asked if I want to buy Microsoft 365... So dumb, Microsoft.

Microsoft Family Safety is absolute junk, probably 80% of the time. Sometimes downtime schedules do nothing at all. Then when they actually do work and I approve my child's request for additional screen time, it's almost guaranteed that THAT won't work. tldr; This app almost never works. If you're looking for something that works on PC as well as Google's Family Link does on Android, this ain't it.
